Le parc national de la Vanoise se situe dans le département de la Savoie dans le massif du même nom qui se situe entre la vallée de l’Isère, la Tarentaise au nord et celle de l’Arc, la Maurienne au sud. Il jouxte le Parc National Italien du Grand-Paradis le long de la frontière, avec lequel il est jumelé depuis 1972. L’ensemble des deux constitue la surface protégée (1 250 km²) la plus étendue en Europe occidentale.
