There are various ways to get to the top of col de la Croix de Fer. We climbed from the Maurienne valley, starting with the back road of Col du Mollard, mostly through the woods, a quiet road with about 40 hairpins. After the descent of Mollard, the first half of Croix de Fer is not that tough, however, the last 6 km are more challenging.
