I got up early, one morning on Ile d'Arz. There was no wind, and the sea was almost perfectly still. I took this shot on the shore, as the sun was finishing to rise. I framed the shot for the abstract composition, with a horizon line perfectly in the middle of image, and the picture mostly empty safe for a few elements. The emptiness conveys the impression of peace, but the boat and the buoys sketch the story. I terms of post-processing, I lightened and enhanced a bit the colors, removed spots in the water, and enhanced a bit the contrast in a few places. I did this using the darktable software, as always. For the colors, I made them slightly more pronounced, pushing the highlights to the pink and the shadows to the blue. I made the top of the image lighter, going all the way to the white, and made the center of the image, along the horizon line, slightly darker. On the horizon line, I increased the contrast using a contrast equalizer in clarity mode. I applied this equalizer also around the buoys and the boat, as well as on the ripples in the bottom. Finally, there were some small dark irregularities in the water: bubbles or floating pieces of dirt. I used the spot removal filter to remove them, because I wanted an impression of smooth emptiness.
