![A Teniers-style Flemish tapestry from the 18th century at the Château d'Ussé, showing peasant life (detail; entire tapestry can be seen at [1]) The book Flemish tapestry from the 15th to the 18th century by Guy Delmarcel explains tapestries similar to this one, of which there are many variations:[2] This is the most widely distributed and best known scene in the Teniers genre. The representation of a Peasant Feast, sometimes a carnival or a wedding, with country folk sitting at a meal in front of an inn, while others dance to the sound of bagpipes or vielle, approaches most closely the type of rural feast distributed by David II Teniers. He created the classic setting for these events, with a farmhouse or inn seen from the side, alternately on the left or the right of the composition, and one or more large trees on a level area (cf. each of these types in the Hermitage, St Petersburg, inv. 594 and 1719, or the Gemäldegalerie, Dresden, inv. 1070 and 1083). In the later Brussels tapestries the piper usually stands upright on an empty barrel, and the vielle player sits sideways with a group of children.
