Unearthed in 1883 by Félix Voulot, curator of the Musée départemental des Vosges, and conserved in situ, this 232 sq.m mosaic paved the ground of one of the basilica rooms. Its central feature, called an emblema is an example of figurative art. Evidence below the barrel arch window, of the end of a carpet runner suggests that there may have been a passageway or an adjoining room. The most remarkable objects discovered in Grand since 1960 are exhibited around the mosaic. In 2009, it was restored to its original bright, fresh colours.
