The map depicts the German Spring Offensive (also known as the Kaiserschlacht or Ludendorff Offensive), a series of German military operations on the Western front between March and July 1918. Soon after the US official entry into the First World War, the German General Staff realized that this offensive was the only remaining option to decisively defeat the Entente Powers before the US Expeditionary Forces could consolidate themselves in Europe.
