View of the "Embrienne river" in the "Embrienne valley", in the department "Pas-de-Calais", (Hauts-de-France region in northern France), in the "Seven Valleys". Photo made on the 10th of August 2017 (after two weeks unusually rainy for the region). The bottom of the river - where it is not silted up - is lined with pieces flint. Some segments of the first half of this watercourse shows pollution indices (bacteerial carpets and bacterial filtrates, lack of aquatic plants, low number of invertebrates) and others parts appear to be very clean (but with few fish and few visible animal organisms). Note: Locally, what appears to be large (up to 10 cm) subaquatic Nostoc bacterial colonies are visible (assemblages of cyanobacteria with photosynthetic capabilities) ; perhaps Nostoc verrucosum ?
