En 1590, le donjon était déjà probablement ruiné, faute de moyens pour l’entretenir ; Léonarde et Catherine de Carbonnières, filles de Charles de Carbonnières, font alors construire dans l'enceinte des remparts, un châtelet accolé d'une tour ronde.
