Canaveilles village lends its name to a group of precambrian geological formations which are found over wide areas in the eastern Pyrenees. These formations date back to around 600 millions years ago. They cover most of the commune of Canaveilles itself. They consist mainly of various types of schist, but beds of a distinctive, whiteish marble also appear, as on the slope between the village and the Têt river below.
