The village of Marquixanes sits on a small granite outcrop that is separated from the Millas granite massif to the north (on the left in this picture) by the River Têt valley floor. Sections of the medieval village walls and buildings were built using blocks of this granite. par Alan Mattingly (CC0)
This is an exposure of the "Marquixanes Formation", which is here an arkose sequence containing beds of unrolled granite clasts.
